ABC’s second season of “Wipeout” is turning out to be a disappointment. The show is getting repetitive. I gave the first season of “Wipeout” 4/5 stars, but due to the second season’s lack of variety, I downgraded “Wipeout” to 3/5 stars.
The show continues to cast loud people and obnoxious people. “Wipeout” shouldn’t be afraid of casting regular people and others. The show would be a lot more entertaining if it displayed a wide variety of people attempting the goofy obstacle courses. Mix it up. Have one episode consisting of only fat or chubby people. Then try one episode of skinny people. Then continue with nerds, dads, housewives, amateur athletes or weekend warriors, possibly professional athletes, old people, short people, tall people, medium-height people, females only, males only, homosexuals, different races or certain ethnic groups, and so forth. Then have an episode with all types of people. The show insists on only using physical challenges while consisting of zero puzzles or very little mental challenges. Boring!
One positive part of the show is that the two male hosts, John Henson and John Anderson, are still entertaining, because Henson does a good job of goofing off and being funny, while Anderson ensures the show progresses on schedule. The third host, Jill Wagner, is as beautiful as ever, but she is also as dull or insipid as before. Jill Wagner needs to learn that good looks don’t last forever or work in every situation, so she should learn how to make intelligent comments, how to say witty statements, and/or how to crack jokes. Her interviews of the contestants continue to waste time. Try asking about people’s backgrounds, their motivations, what they want to do with the prize money, and other questions that reveal who the contestants are in real life. If she continues to be one-dimensional, then replace her with a woman who possesses both beauty and brains.
“Wipeout” can be viewed on television or on the Internet. I prefer the Internet because it allows me to watch the show whenever I want, as many times as I want, fast forward or rewind, and so forth. However, the show has a lousy website. I don’t want to go into any details, but, generally, the website for “Wipeout” is not user friendly. For example, it slowly uploads new episodes, and it should upload the episodes in all seasons.
Maybe “Wipeout” is a one-hit wonder or the show is possibly NOT aimed towards viewers like me. Instead, the show is content with appealing to little children and other people with low mental capacities. Anyhow, the show is quickly losing me as a viewer.
